The Religious Right Is Neither

I believe that it is the duty of every heart which has felt the Christian moral and spiritual duty to fight with all their might against the hell that the Religious Right wants to inflict on the rest of this world. Like fundamentalist regimes everywhere, a state run by fanatics always destroys all that is decent and good about a nation and its people. In America, though, the fundamentalists don't even pretend to offer a nation run according to the teachings which they claim were provided directly by their God, Jesus Christ. Instead, they offer a morally narrow minded and economically greedy society for all who fall within their grasp.

Let's take a look at a few of their demands one item at a time. Some of these demands are already the habit of what's left of our democratic government and some are still being forced down the throats of Americans in hopes that the Religious Right's vile lusts will eventually become national policy.

First and foremost and saddest of all is the Religious Right's success in destroying all that our nation once offered as safety nets for the country's poorest citizens and, far more importantly, its children. The utter destruction of Welfare and AFDC and Food Stamps and the planned annihilation of Social Security and Medicare through the contemptible moral failures of our Congress and executive branch is in complete conflict with everything that Christ is said to have taught. According to the Religious Right's own Bible, He demanded, not suggested, that all Christians provide help and food and protection to the poorest amongst them. Nowhere did He tell His followers to pass judgment on the circumstances which the poor face. In fact, He specifically told His followers that they were never to judge any other, that was God's business and not the right of fallible mortals. His followers were simply to open their hearts to those less fortunate knowing that God would recognize and punish those who would not attempt to grow out of poverty. It was not even a slight option of man to make those distinctions.

The abysmal surrender to the Religious Right's greed and lust for money is an unbelievable hostility towards His teachings regarding wealth. Christ offered no doubt about His views of greed and desire for wealth and the horrors which money created within the hearts of mankind. Nowhere in the Bible is wealth deemed acceptable or moral and, in fact, He specifically states that earthly wealth is a barrier to any hope for redemption and inclusion into heaven. His statements that the rich had the same opportunity to enter heaven as a camel had of going through the eye of a needle leaves no wiggle room for the potential trespasser. His demand that His followers give up all earthly possessions if they were to follow Him was not a recommendation but a requirement for entry into heaven.

Even those ridiculous evangelists and their multi-million dollar broadcasting systems are an abomination before their God. He specifically told His followers that, should they pray before others, that their reward would arise from having impressed others with their piety. Instead, they were to go into another room and close the door and only then would God hear and respect their prayers. The act of standing before millions of gullible TV viewers is exactly the opposite of His requirements for the individual's prayers. To then try to con those viewers into sending money in order only to make the evangelist more wealthy breaks nearly every command given by Christ to His followers. Finally, the Bible tells of His overwhelming anger at those who would use His temple for monetary gain and of His act of over turning the tables of the money changers, none of which can be taken as an indication of His spiritual love for the greedy.

For Christians to unite in a political cause in opposition to God's word is to extend the evil with which men disregard His teachings. "Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's" is not an invitation to ignore the poor and the children but is a demand that you honor the wishes of the state wherever it does not come into conflict with your duties before God. You are to pay your taxes and to refrain from breaking those laws of men that do not force you, in any way, to break the laws which have been given to you by the Son of God.

Finally, Christ's followers were told to love all of their fellow men, not just those who call themselves Christians without deigning to follow the demands that Christ laid down. His demands that you not kill (murder is not the true translation from the Greek but rather the word kill is exactly the word that the commandment contained) forces anyone who wants to outlaw abortion to spend an equal or greater amount of energy in opposing every war or execution condoned by the state. If one believes that the act of removing non-viable cells from a woman's uterus is murder then that same person must also admit that killing another for the insane economic or political biases of an earthly government and its corporate owners is murder, as well.

The reality is that God, in the form of Christ and according to the Bible, gave no quarter for argument. His teachings never used the words "should" or "may" or "could" or "ought to". They all used the word "Shall" which leaves no room for discussion or dissension. The Religious Right is only a non-profit and untaxed political movement with absolutely no right to call upon the name of God to prove its roots as a more moral group than any other. In fact, one should have more respect for fascists and communists simply because those two political movements never tried to disguise their intentions like this crowd which tries to masquerade as Christians.
