The Crimnal Activities of the Bush Family

In all the hoopla about the goofball who is being hailed as the Republican candidate for president in 2000 based solely on the fact that he can raise tons of money from his many pasty white, fat, wealthy, gluttonous masters and owners, very, very little has been said about Georgie Bush's stands on any of the important issues facing America and its fast disappearing Constitutional freedoms. What has he offered in place of intelligent thoughts? "Compassionate Conservatism" is the best that he can apparently do. Now, gentle readers, whenever a politician feels the need to add a positive spin in adjective form to make him or her appear less mean spirited and anti-everything that's decent, you can be very, very certain that all who avails themselves of that low sort of word trickery has no intention of following that philosophy after election day.

So, knowing that, should you believe Bush's new found compassion? Should you believe any of the Bush family, no matter what they say? Would you ever believe a criminal's word? How about an entire family of criminals?

Remember his daddy's "Kinder and Gentler Nation"? Did any of you notice any improvement in the treatment of those who the Republicans are so fond of reviling; the poor and single women and working women and children and the elderly and the disabled? Nope, neither did I. Do you believe for a moment that sonny boy has any intention of actually doing anything but just mouthing those words until election day and then falling back into the mean spirited, hateful, despicable ways of all Republican politicians? Nope, neither do I.

Okay, let's spend a few minutes doing what the corporately owned media has no intention of doing; factually looking at the criminal record that the entire Bush family has loosed upon America and her citizens. History is a far better indicator of a person's future actions than any ludicrous promises or political platforms during an election. Careful, though, this type of honest examination that always precedes the usual death threats and taunts of "liar, liar, pants on fire." As Mort Sahl once said about Ronald Reagan, "When I quote him, I'm accused of slandering him."

Let's begin with George W. Bush, Sr., shall we?

Just to refresh your memory, it was Bush who, during his failed 1980 run for the Presidency, labeled Reagan's twisted "Trickle Down Theory" as "voodoo economics" and then, once chosen as the feeble-minded old man's running mate, spent the next twelve years pretending to accept the lie. It was during his successful 1988 Presidential campaign that he proclaimed "Read my lips! No new taxes!" but, well, you get the picture.

Many records have come to light since the Iran-Contra hearings that strongly support the accusation that then Vice-President Bush was not "Out of the loop", as he repeatedly claimed, but was fully aware of the illegal arms shipments to Iran and also of the drugs that were being imported into the poorest neighborhoods in America by the terrorists he and Reagan were illegally supporting in Nicaragua. The world will never know the truth, of course, because one of Bush's last acts as President was to pardon everyone related to these high crimes and misdemeanors.

There has also been reports that he was protecting major drug dealers in the Mideast who were also acting as informants. These dealers were passing on military and political information regarding such nations as Syria and Iraq in exchange for that protection.

It has long been known that it was at Bush's request that Brett Kimberlin, a convicted small time drug dealer, was placed in solitary confinement for the entire 1988 presidential election cycle. Why such a harsh punishment for such a small time crook? Because Kimberlin had stated in an NBC interview that he had been the source for the monthly marijuana purchases of one Dan Quayle and that he had made Quayle and his new blushing, conservative bride, Marilyn, a wedding present of hashish and marijuana which, it goes without saying, was consumed and not reported to the local police.

Finally, there was once evidence that George Bush may have been the celebrated "Deep-Throat" of Watergate fame. That evidence, however, has long since been destroyed. (1)

The boys of the Bush family have some truly dirty laundry, as well.

Beginning with John "Jeb" Bush, now governor of Florida, we find that he assisted Miguel Recarey, a fugitive now living in Spain, to steal over $200 million from International Medical Centers, the HMO Recarey owned, by using Jeb's father's influence to acquire a waiver for the HMO of the standard rule of 50-50 (meaning that at least 50% of an HMO's clients cannot be Medicare patients but must be full paying clients). This theft left 150,000 elderly Americans without medical coverage. Oh, and by the way, Recarey had paid Jeb Bush's company a $75,000 "real-estate consultant fee". All totaled, Recarey embezzled over $1 billion in Medicare funds through false billings and outright theft.

All of this occurred even though Leon Weinstein, a low-level HHS (Health and Human Resources, the agency responsible for Medicare payments), had been warning his superiors that IMC had been acting illegally since 1977. Even in 1983, his warnings were again ignored when he presented his superiors with undeniable documentation. It wasn't until 1986, when Weinstein took his case to Congressmen Barney Frank (D-NY) and Pete Stark (D-CA), that anyone would listen to his evidence. These two Congressmen initiated investigative hearings into the scandal. As the hearings went on, it was learned that Recarey was also being investigated for bribing union officials in order to get a larger membership of non-Medicare patients, had been indicted on illegal wiretapping charges and was even refunded $2.2 million from the IRS the very same day the he boarded a flight out of the country.(2, 3)

During his father's second campaign for the Vice-presidency, Jeb and his partner, Armando Codina, received a loan to purchase an office building from Broward Federal Savings in Sunrise, Florida. By late 1988, federal regulators found that the loan was in default. Finding themselves faced with the choice of either charging the Vice-President's son with a felony or publicly forcing Jeb and his partner to fully repay the loan during the elder Bush's campaign for the Presidency, they hit upon a rather clever third option. The regulator's simply "reappraised" the building for $500,000, which Bush and Codina promptly paid and the default was lifted. The American taxpayer, of course, picked up the $4 million difference when Broward Federal Savings went bankrupt later that year. Jeb's rather lame excuse for the fiasco that cost taxpayers millions? He and his partner were "victims of circumstances".

Jeb has also been deeply associated with one Camilo Padera. Padera had been indicted for looting another S&L, Jefferson Savings & Loan Association in McAllen, Texas, in 1982, but had the charges dropped when the CIA informed the FBI that Padera was to be cleared and his entire case forgotten. Later, Padera went on to defraud Housing and Urban Development of millions of dollars by, for instance, borrowing millions of dollars to build office buildings in Miami at a time when hundreds of offices already stood vacant in other buildings. Nevertheless, old Jeb hired on with Padera to find tenants for an empty, HUD financed office building. Who do you think old Jeb found to occupy nearly every empty office in Padera's building? None other that IMC, owned by Miguel Recarey.

Jeb also was instrumental in a case where another of his "friends", "Manny" Diaz, received a $1.72 million contract with the state of Florida to landscape 113 miles of freeway, even though Diaz had absolutely no experience in highway landscaping. Diaz, as Jeb undoubtedly knew, had been a long time confident of Charles Keating, the president and chief looter of Lincoln Savings and Loan. Keating had even transferred a large parcel of Phoenix real estate that he owned to Diaz's name for just $1 and transferred his $2 million mansion on the island of Cat Cay in the Bahamas to Diaz just days before Keating filed for personal bankruptcy.

And, finally, let's not forget Jeb's recent troubles when his wife tried, unsuccessfully, to hide over $19,000 in purchases she brought from Paris, but which was discovered by custom officials who forced her to pay the required fees and taxes. Just as an obvious question, though, if you or I had tried so overtly to violate a federal law, would we have been sent home after paying up?(4)

How about Neil Bush, that little fellow that has been, oh, so quiet these last nine years?

Neil served as a director of Silverado Banking, Savings & Loans in Denver, CO, from 1985 to 1988, at which time it went bankrupt. During his tenure on the board, Silverado made over $200 million in loans to Neil's two partners in JMB Exploration, Neil's unbelievably unsuccessful oil company. Of that amount, Neil's partners defaulted on $132 million, leading to the S&L's failure.

An interesting aside to this story about Silverado's failure was that the public closure of the institution was delayed until after the 1988 presidential elections. Even then, it took another two full years before regulators finally determined that Neil suffered from an "ethical disability" and fined him $50,000 for those lapses. The $250,000 cost of his defense was paid for by a banking industry lobbyist who is fighting to get banks deregulated (a fight he may win in the next Congressional session).

Once Silverado had failed, Neil decided that he wasn't done looting the taxpayer's money just yet. Using a family friend as a front, Neil borrowed $2.35 million dollars through the SBA (Small Business Administration) to start another oil company, Apex Energy. Once the story was reported that the loan had been processed through companies that were, themselves, technically insolvent, Neil gave up his seat on the board, forfeited his part ownership and scampered away so that others would be forced to deal with this new mess. Nevertheless, ever the Bush, before leaving the comapny, Neil sold an oil lease that he owned to Apex for $150,000. The final disposition of this story has not been reported nor publicized.

Now let's turn our attention to the prime candidate for the Republican candidacy for the Presidency, old George W. Bush, Jr., himself.

Shrub, as that gifted and funny political writer Molly Ivins calls him, worked as a "consultant" for Harken Energy. Harken's 1987 stock offering was placed with the London office of Union Bank, the same institution that assisted the Bank of Credit and Commerce in skirting money laundering laws by flying cash from drug sales out of Panama in their private jets and was also used by Ferdinand Marcos to stash 325 TONS of Philippine gold around the world.

Junior, trading on his ties to the President, was instrumental, as a member of its board, in convincing the government of Bahrain to sign a contract for oil drilling with Harken Energy, even though better equipped and experienced companies had also bid for the contract. Some individuals with ties to Arab oil were later allowed easy access to then President Bush, leading many to speculate that the speed with which America forced the UN to begin Operation Desert Shield was due to these influences.

Also consider this; Junior sold his 212,140 shares of stock in Harken Energy for $848,560 just two months before Iraq invaded Kuwait. Once the invasion took place, the value of Junior's stocks plummeted $212,140. Not until seven months later did Junior file the required SEC disclosure forms, even though the sale was an insider stock sale which requires immediate filing. Was he ever charged with any violation of federal laws for this infraction? Get real!!!

So, what have we learned, gentle readers? We've learned that a corrupt and weak father sired sons who; rented himself out to a known criminal land developer who scammed HUD and Medicare for millions of dollars, another who profited from insider stock trading while Americans were dying in the Middle East war, and another that ran a Savings & Loan into bankruptcy by looting the bank for his two deadbeat partners and who then stole even more taxpayer money by raiding the SBA.

As a Secret Service agent who was assigned to the Bush family once remarked, "Look, we warn them. But that's all we can do. We can't stop these kids from associating with someone they want to be with. All we can do after warning them is to sweep these guys with metal detectors when they come around".

Have you heard even one media outlet offering this information to its listeners or readers? Do you think any will between now and November in 2000? Do you want scum like this running anything more important than a street sweeper? Well, unless we work as hard as possible to disseminate this example of important information to everyone we know, then old George W. will simply buy his way into the White House and all of the criminal activity that his family has dealt in will not only continue but will increase dramatically since there will be nowhere to turn to for justice in America.
