Christians cannot be Republicans. By "Christians" I mean those very few who actually take the words of Jesus to heart and strive to live a life based on those teachings. By "Christians", I mean those who wish to help create a world in which all are equal and where greed is considered the work of evil men and women.
Christians don't vote Republican. Republicans are now, have always been, and will forever be the party of wealth and greed and the abuse of the poor and defenseless. Jesus was the most progressive and liberal person to have ever walked this Earth. His teachings go against everything that the Republican Party stands for, particularly now that the moron and his regime have stolen the nation's highest offices.
By "Christians", I mean those who live by these words from Jesus,
Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
Mark 10:23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Mar 10:24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
Mar 10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Luke 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed [be ye] poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
Luke 6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also.
Luke 6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask [them] not again.
Okay, let's take a look at a few more of the teachings of Jesus that Christians are required to follow but which most choose not to.
Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Look at who represents the Republican Party.
First, of course, is the idiot in the Oval Office. The less said about him the better.
Then we have Attorney General John Ashcroft, a man who makes his staff pray every morning and pushes publicly for the invasion of our schools and government by representatives of his warped version of Christianity (see below). He wants to destroy the constitutional barriers put in place by our founding fathers to stop people like him from creating a Christian Taliban government in America.
Next up is Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, a man who can laugh at the deaths of other human beings while ignoring as unimportant the thousands of innocent children and women and the elderly that he has murdered in Afghanistan. Rumsfeld is just the basic definition of evil.
Look at the entire Bush family. They live and breathe money and, when one of their children is born without the sense of a rock, they use their other wealthy friends to insure that the dummy is gifted with enough financial help to live the life of luxury.
The Reagans accepted a multi-million dollar ranch from their largest contributors.
The entire foundation of the party is based on enacting the absolute maximum amount of tax cuts for the top 2% or 3% of wealthy families as well as removing all taxes from the sluts in the suites. The party fights any legislation that might even slightly benefit the other 98% if there is any effect on the profits of the wealthy. Healthcare for all is fought because it would eliminate the HMO system which gains it profits through the refusal to grant medical care whenever it is deemed "too expensive". Decent schools are fought because the teachers are organized and demand a fair wage and benefit package, demands that enrage the Republicans who simply hate any form of organized and representative labor. The safety of airline passengers are ignored or pushed aside because the only sure way to protect American travelers is by using a federal security force instead of the dirt poor employees of Corporate America's useless forays into security of any sort. Prescription coverage for the elderly is fought because it helps those who already refuse to vote for any Republican.
Look at the little insects like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. These two hateful and greedy preachers live with the accumulation of wealth as their main focus. Both own their own television shows and both constantly beg for more and more money from their listeners. Both spend a huge part of their airtime pretending to be Christians and praying before the cameras as if they would dry up and blow away if there wasn't an audience to look at them. Just by being who they have decided to be, they have ignored two of the most important lessons that their son of god demanded that they heed. Falwell and Robertson's entire careers are based on praying in front of their viewers in hopes that they will appear righteous and their viewers will send them even more money.
In fact, I have yet to find a Christ-related religion that isn't practiced in front of as many other followers as possible. As Jesus said, the reward for public prayer is the public's applause.
The sick love of wealth above all is totally and completely against these teachings. Jesus spoke quite clearly about the love of "mammon" and its effects on those who wish entry into the Christian heaven. The act of praying before others has been shown to be against the very specific lessons that Jesus left for his followers. Both of these transgressions, though, are the absolute cornerstones of the Republican Party.
Basically, the Republican Party is the Imperial Rome of the American political system. Until they can prove that they themselves follow the teachings of Jesus, I don't want to hear another word about their bogus Faith-based Initiatives. Those programs are just a distraction from the moron's true purpose of transferring your tax dollars into the coffers of even more of the greedy little airheads that make up the vast majority of religious leaders.
